You don’t need to read the whole spiel on the link, but the crux is that New Line Cinema - the people who funded the Lord of the Rings trilogy are in a legal dispute about profit from the Fellowship of the Ring. So they’ve chucked their dummies and refuse to employ him to direct the prequel, the Hobbit. Clearly this is a crap move on their behalf, it would be like having a Star Wars movie not directed by George Lucas, and would end up something like the quality of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, which we obviously don’t want to happen again.
