James Spratt, Cardiologist

“Hi there fellow Spratts,

I am yet another in what seems to be a long line of James Spratt’s. I am a Cardiologist living in Edinburgh Scotland, but from Limavady Co. Derry Ireland. My father, who is also called James Spratt was born in Detroit USA, but was brought up in Fermanagh Ireland, the son of my grandfather also, wait for it James Spratt – born & bred in Fermanagh Ireland. I believe his brother (my great uncle) emigrated to Canada to work as a bear trapper. I will send this link to my Dad who may be able to give more info on his grandfather – my great grandfather…”

Does anyone have information of the Spratt’s that emigrated to Ottawa, Canada in the 1800′s. There was Andrew, James and John. There may have been other siblings in Ireland. John is the one who is proving to be the hardest to uncover information on. I believe my husband, Hugh McAlindon, is related to Andrew Spratt the first to come over.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello James. I sent your site to Carol Spratt who is descended from James as is my husband, Hugh McAlindon. Andrew, who settled in Ottawa, Ontario is Hugh’s descendant whereas Carol is by way of his brother Andrew. We both have substantial information on the Canadian Spratt’s dating back to the early 1800′s. Carol and I are currently trying to synchronize our information plus increase our family base. It’s very interesting indeed. The Spratt’s have a HUGE family base in Ontario. Would your family have come from Wicklow/Leitrim by any chance?
I look forward to hearing from you. Cynthia

My mistake. Hugh is descended from Andrew by way of his son Richard (1857-1932). Andrew was the father (1807-1880). I can’t remember right now which son Carol descends from. I’ll ask.
